I went out on a limb and bought a shirtdress recently. I say “out on a limb” because buying dresses online hasn’t proven successful for me yet. It’s hard to gauge how a dress will fit when all you can see is an image. Nevertheless, this was on a mega sale, and I figured if it didn’t fit, I could always donate it or sell it via Facebook to a friend.
In the end, it worked out alright. (It looks better in photos than in person – trust me.)
Here’s the thing: It pretty much looks identical to another more form-fitting dress shirt I have. They are the same color, same length and even have the same pockets. They are just different materials. While I would love to rock this dress without the green sweater, it just wasn’t happening. Something about waist cinching makes me look ultra frump. I blame a short body with curves. These flowy dresses just never look right.
Nevertheless, I made it work for a day. Which is all it needed to do. I’ll wear it again in the future under the right layers. As a stand-alone piece, it just isn’t working for me. You win some. You lose some!
