Over Memorial Day weekend, I had the opportunity to travel to Asheville, N.C., for the wedding of two good college friends. It’s been years since I’ve traveled to the mountainous south, and I really enjoyed getting away. The added bonus? M grew up in this area, so I got to meet his best friend and see his old stomping grounds for a few days.
The wedding was on Sunday, so the days leading up to the big event were mostly low-key. M and I bopped around from place to place with his best friend and enjoyed some delicious food and beer. One of my favorite spots was the Green Man Brewery, where we sat outside in the warm sun and sipped on some refreshing IPAs. I may or may not have returned home with an affinity for microbrews. It’s been years since I enjoyed beer, but Asheville brought it back — in moderation, of course.
We drove to Lake Eden on Sunday evening for the big ceremony. What a gorgeous setting! It’s surrounded by mountains with a beautiful view of the lake. Of course, Karla was absolutely breathtaking in her gown, and she and Patrick made for a such a lovely couple. Although the skies were a bit cloudy, the rain held back while they said their vows.
We spent the night eating, laughing, dancing, playing corn hole and singing by the fire. It reminded me of so many great times with this group. I met the majority of these pals during my senior year of college. We quickly formed a little group — and have stayed in touch. It was these friends that showed me how to enjoy a late night and how to feel the rhythm in music. They showed me how big a friendship can really feel.
It felt very fitting that Karla and Patrick brought us all back together, despite time and distance. They are truly a couple that brings about a community, and they are so wonderful to be around. I was so honored that they had me there — for their big, special day.
Here’s to a wonderful weekend in Asheville!
