Today in my challenge group, we’re focusing on bringing positive habits into our lives. I thought for a while about this one while on the bus ride to work. There are so many areas in my life where I’d like to improve. I wasn’t sure how to pick just one. So I decided to step outside of my comfort zone a little bit …
This may sound silly, but I got the idea from a new TV show I started watching called Enlightened. In the show, a corporate executive goes off the deep end and is forced to attend a mindfulness retreat. When she returns home, she tries to bring that positivity into her old life. Rather than drudging into work each day, she smiles and says hello. She is friendly and inviting. She is warm and compassionate. She is open, happy and healthy.
Today, my goal is to say hello and smile to one person. It sounds easy, but this warmth can often being overlooked in this world of go-go-go. So often I am glued to my iPhone screen, walking by others without even noticing their presence. So today, and hopefully for the next 21 days, I can become more mindful, present and warm toward others.
I’ll let you know how this goes. I still haven’t yet said “hello” to a random person, but I’m working up the courage. I have many more hours left in the day to accomplish this one tiny goal. And I think I’ll be better in the end because of it.
