Hi Friends! I hope this week has been treating you well.
I have a bit of writers block today, so just go with me here.
You know that saying, When it rains it pours…? I have joked before about getting this tattoo’d on me, because I swear it holds true each and every time. I feel like life likes to test us some times and throws a bunch of little crap our way just to let us know the universe is still in charge. You can do all the planning in the world, and things just don’t always turn out exactly the way you’d like. And that’s ok. Rollin’ with it is part of the fun.
Last week at work was pretty trying. We are going through a lot of change, and with that comes decisions that affect lots of people and their lives. It’s hard for me to wrap my head around some of it still, but it is what it is. Because of a lot of this change, 9 meetings fell off my calendar on Friday. I decided to do something I don’t usually do, and I abruptly requested the day off. My calendar was clear after all.
At first I had a lot of anxiety about it. “But my boss is in the office”. “Think about all the things I could get done if I was there”. “What will people think about me just not coming in? I told them I’d be there.”
However, I knew I needed it. I’m constantly battling those voices in my head, and I have successfully managed them over the last year or so. So, I sent the email asking to take a personal day and it was glorious. I did all those things that never seem to get done. I washed sets of sheets, put dinner in the slow cooker, washed towels, scrubbed the floors, got the gel polish taken off my nails, and went to a noon yoga class. I even got a little rest in.
It was AMAZING being able to just enjoy my weekend instead of spending it doing everything in the last paragraph. It also flew by. I couldn’t believe I technically had a three day weekend when Sunday evening rolled around. Time flies when you’re having fun.
I’ve decided to start taking these days more often. Maybe once every few months, I’ll just request a day off for no particular reason. I certainly needed it.
