Hi! I’m Rose.
I’ve been in this working world for as long as I can remember.
My first job out of college was in the Washington, D.C.-Baltimore metropolitan area, first at a non-profit, then at a university. While there, I earned my master of fine arts degree in creative writing and publishing arts (while working full time).
I moved to Pittsburgh in 2010 and served as a science writer for a Pittsburgh university for a couple of years. Then, I moved to Princeton, New Jersey, where I currently work as a research writer. On the side, I bind books and write non-fiction and poetry.
I’ve been involved in the healthy living blog community since 2008, when I first introduced “On a Lobster Placement.” That blog, which is no longer online, was previously featured in the Washington Post Express and Baltimore’s b Daily. While I enjoyed my years of daily blogging, I ultimately outgrew the space as I transitioned from life in D.C. to Pittsburgh.
In addition to my full-time job, I currently run online fitness and clean eating challenge groups to inspire people to jump aboard the healthy living train. Helping others achieve their fitness goals is one of my passions. While I’m not a certified health coach or instructor (yet), I like to be my challengers’ biggest cheerleader. I’ve also lost a solid 15 pounds over the past few years, and I feel healthy in this “new” skin.
As a person who is nearly always working, I’ve had my ups and downs in terms of maintaining a healthy life. There were years when I didn’t care—I’d get in the bare minimum in terms of exercise and eat food without being mindful. But there were also years where I cared too much: grinding it out at the gym during the late hours of the night and counting calories like it was my job.
The older I get, however, the more I’ve been able to strike a balance. I don’t count calories but instead eat clean. I don’t obsess over exercise but am sure to move daily. And most importantly, I make time for me—I hone my crafts (writing, bookbinding, etc.), and live a very social existence.
I haven’t figured it all out just yet, but I’m getting closer. And I look forward to you joining me for the ride.
